Mala Rafik has practiced law in Boston since 1997 and is a founding member of the Mental Health Justice Project. She is the managing partner at Rosenfeld and Rafik, PC. Throughout her career, Mala has represented individuals in state and federal court who were denied access to needed healthcare or disability benefits. She has also served on the board of directors of several non-profit legal services organizations and has represented Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, Inc. for almost three decades.
Mala’s commitment to the Mental Health Justice Project is shaped by her own life and experiences. Mental health challenges have affected her own life and the lives of many people she loves. Navigating the health care system while caring for yourself or someone you love can be overwhelming and often impossible to do without help. Through MHJP, Mala hopes to ease that burden for families, particularly for those who do not know where to turn or how to ask for help.
Outside of her work, Mala manages her own anxiety with the support of her dog, Angus, who would abandon her for the mailman without a second thought. She loves live music, her closest people, and Bruce Springsteen. Mala is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and Colby College.
