process
We know this can be a stressful and confusing time. The Mental Health Justice Project is here to help. Our process ensures that you are fully supported and empowered throughout the entire journey.
01
reach out
At MHJP, we believe that no one should be prevented from accessing mental health treatment or private disability benefits because of financial hardship. Think that MHJP can help you? Call us at 617-307-2130 or fill out this form.

02
information gathering
If we determine that we are a good fit, we will ask you to sign documents allowing us to represent you, request records on your behalf, and communicate with relevant parties. We then gather the information needed to evaluate and pursue your case, including records from medical providers, insurance companies, and other involved entities.

"Shortly after connecting with Mala and her team, they were able to work with the legal team of my insurance company, ultimately allowing me to get the rehabilitation I needed. [MHJP]'s team was incredibly responsive, compassionate, and effective. What they were able to help me accomplish ultimately changed my life and the lives of those closest to me."
03
appeal process
One of MHJP’s critical functions is assisting you in appealing benefit denials from your insurance company. This involves reviewing all of the relevant information from you, your healthcare providers, and the insurance company, and drafting and submitting your appeal.

04
pre-litigation and litigation
If your appeals have been exhausted and your claim continues to be denied, MHJP can discuss and pursue your pre-litigation options with you. If your insurer continues to uphold its denial, MHJP will file a lawsuit on your behalf.

05
maintaining benefits
If your long-term disability benefits or health insurance claim has been restored, MHJP can assist with your insurance company’s ongoing reviews to ensure that your benefits remain in place.
