At MHJP, we believe no one should be denied or prevented from accessing mental health treatment because of financial hardship. Our mission is to provide free legal representation to individuals who are unable to obtain mental health treatment or private disability benefits due to financial constraints and to pursue systemic legal challenges that can improve access to mental health care and disability benefits for others facing similar barriers.

We advocate for children and young adults who are unable to obtain timely and appropriate mental health treatment, with a focus on removing financial and insurance related barriers to care.

Individuals are often denied insurance coverage for medically necessary mental health care. We provide legal representation to challenge unlawful or improper denials and to hold insurers accountable. Our work advances the principle that mental health and related services are a fundamental part of health care.

Many individuals are wrongly denied short- and long-term disability benefits for mental health conditions. We provide legal representation to appeal these denials, to ensure people receive the benefits they are entitled to.
